It is not easy to pick up the pen and start writing again. Absorbed from everyday commitments, concentrated and organized to meet the obligations of daily life. We are back to a normal pace of life, we live a new everyday life. We’re almost three months leaving in Sydney, not many, but it’s like we’ve been here for a long time because of how we are failing to settle down. We both work restaurants, we also had the opportunity to choose the job, opting for something that give us free time in the evening in order to leave it for enjoy it together. Marti has two works for the truth, she recently started in a school, where she performs recreational activities for children during the afternoon. We found a room in an apartment with another Italian boy, he is my age and has lived here for over five years. It was not really our maximum ambition, i mean we would have preferred to speak English at home, but it went like this and there are other positive as
pects that have led us to make this decision. The area is really nice, we are ten minutes away from the sea, exactly Coogee beach. It is very well served, there is everything we need within a few steps. It is a micro-city, a very well organized neighborhood frequented by many young people. Since the city is immense as an extension, it is divided into many districts, each of these lives on its own life. It looks a lot like London in how it is structured and also urbanistically. The distances are wide, so the choice of the district is crucial in the unfolding of the daily, we wanted to have the sea close as possible, this was our priority. We were lucky but also stubborn to find a job not far from home, the same applies to extra activities such as the gym or the football team, always within a short time. This allows us not to spend endless hours on the means of transport, blocked in the city traffic and not to depend on bus schedules or ferries that in such a big city is quite common factor. Just think that we have never taken the subway yet! We are doing well, the pace of life is flowing smoothly and it is quite simple, the easy life as Australians like to call it, their way of being ‘easy’, they do not worry too much, so the words ‘no worries mate’ still stands out among one of the most used sayings. Difficult in fact to have worries in a country where work is abundant, there are no dangers of any kind for theft or crime, there are many services always working and available, people are honest and trust their neighbor, there is no corruption and to complete the picture where a magnificent sun shines for most days of the year. Let’s go back to where we stopped, we are living this new chapter of the journey in the best way we can. We are integrating step by step in the rhythm of Australian life. Although there is not much to learn about the cultu
re of the country, we like to experience typical habits of the place, such as a run to the park early in the morning, or a quick swim in the sea finished working or lunch breaks. The opportunity we are having of being able to work legally in a country with rather strict rules on immigration and in which it would otherwise be too expensive for us to live, allows us to enjoy hundred percent this experience of our journey. Here you can find plenty of work, and by making a simple life without too many vices you can save some money, in view of the next steps to be addressed. This long break of the journey is allowing us to discover not only the natural wonders of a new place, but also how it could be to live one’s life in a different place from home. Today, unfortunately, it is quite common, we have several friends who have left Italy looking for different places, new challenges or more opportunities. But there are also many people who do not have an idea of ??what it means, that can not even be imagined because they have never been able, or wanted to try to make a different life experience from the one that is proposed to us within the walls, the borders of our city. This is why we are really happy to have had this opportunity and to have also wanted it with all our strength. We are making the most of it, taking advantage of every little new lesson that we can learn far from ours home environment. This is one of the aspects we most love about traveling. To learn new things, to see life from different perspectives, to change opinion if it happens, even on questions, concepts that you would never have doubted. To adapt. We talked about natural wonders, where the sea and the beaches play a fundamental part. Especially here in Sydney, you never stop discovering a new beach, because among its innumerable bays you can always hide a strip of land protected by the vegetation which you had not noticed the previous time. So another beach is formed, big or small, washed by the waters of the ocean, where inside
you could see the heads of many surfers, perched on the tables, and the sails of hundreds of boats are explained, cradled by the warm wind, which constantly envelops this magnificent city. If there is one thing, however, that struck me and I’m paying more attention at than when I spent months here a bit ‘of years ago, are the parks. In Sydney, every neighborhood has its own park, and not a small one. I’m talking about giant parks that can hold up to ten soccer fields together. Starting from the most famous and ancient Botanical Garden that surrounds the city center flowing into the sea, with a wonderful contrast of colors. In this case it is more a garden oriented to the aesthetics of its plants and its trees and flowers of multiple shapes and characteristics. Then there are the parks in the various residential areas, they are also kept impeccably, with the grass always cut perfectly comparable to one of the golf courses. They are clean places, where you walk barefoot, served by public baths always accessible and in optimal conditions. And why are all these parks there and who are they for? Parks are for them. Australians love to go there, at any time of day, free time. They go to run, or play sports, to play with dogs or family walking. The parks are for children who stop school every day and when they are little they are educated as much as possible to live them, to be outdoors to take advantage of these huges spaces. The big lucky of an often favorable climate allows you to spend many hours of the day outdoors. Whether it is the hours before or after work, there is always time to go there, and the parks are transformed into open-air gyms, rugby, football or cricket fields, schools fill it with children and teenagers in the break times and adults in the late afternoon to practice sports. Spaces, great distances, extension of a territory that compared to the population has a much higher proportion. And suddenly could happens to be in an empty or half-empty beach or in a more isolated park where you can take breaks, listening. Where silence can still be found. The territory extended in some way is reflected in the sky. I had forgotten about Australian’s skies.. Although I have never seen the Ireland’s ones of the
famous song, I can say that I find many peculiarities and attractions in these skies that follows our days. During the trip with the van we have seen many details and different types. What strikes most are the clouds that seem lower, almost enough to touch them with a finger if you stretch an arm upwards. The colors undoubtedly, the thousands of shades from purple to orange, which many sunsets or sunrises give us both here but also in other parts of the world. But the real feature that most impresses is the breadth. They are endless skies, which we do not see the end. From the shores of the Great Ocean Road, the sky is confused with the sea line, and a naked eye is not enough to find a fixed point in the distant horizon. Its clouds are always clear and uniform, even the most distant, that run fast pushed by a strong wind that blows with power. They are skies that excite you, and happen to see them in the city, and we probably still not used to, that every time that happened we turn around with our heads up and stay enchanted to contemplate them for some long and pleasant minutes. Let’s go back talking a little bit about everyday life. The job we got is a casual one, so they call it, because it does not provide a long term. Marti works in a cafe, me in a restaurant. Not saying that were missing opportunities for jobs with more perspective, but given our intentions, it would not make sense to look for it. Therefore we live peacefully, and have free time to devote to our passions. I said I had found a football club ele
ven a side where I could play. For me it was very important in a context of everyday life, the team allows you to make a commitment, to socialize, make new friends, be part of a group. And it happened that for fun, even Marti has auditioned for the team, female obviously, and was taken. Although she has never played before, she has always had this little dream and now she is realising it. So if she unexpectedly started to play in a women’s soccer team, I couldn’t refuse to sign up and start a yoga class together! Who would have thought it, I certainly did not! We live a kind of daydream where we can do everything we have not done until now, the watchword is to experience. We tried to convey some feelings we are living in this moment of the journey, this long parenthesis, so we called it. Parenthesis of real life. We do not know how long it will last, of course it’s easy to get used to it, when you feel good and everything flows with joyful and pleasant carefreeness. We know that this will not be the last chapter and not even the last story, because we’ve still got far to go. So far, goodbye to everyone from the opposite side of the world. Always Aim High
